Benefits News for Contract Assignment Teachers (Extended or Long Term Occasional)
OSSTF has some great news to announce regarding access to the OSSTF benefits plan!
OSSTF members who are within a Contract assignment (Extended or Long Term Occasional) of 90 days or longer became eligible for the OSSTF benefits plan as part of our Central deal ratified this spring. However, the access to benefits was not set to take effect until there was also a Local deal signed in the member’s school board. (Unfortunately, we do not have a Local deal here and we may not have one for some time.) But great news: the OSSTF Trust which manages our benefits plan has decided to waive that requirement and to allow all eligible members access to the plan effective September 1st 2020!

Teachers who have an LTO contract will be eligible for the plan as of their first day in the assignment. Teachers who have an Extended Daily assignment will be eligible as of the 90th calendar day from their first day worked in the assignment but they will be able to submit eligible expense claims dated back to the beginning of their assignment. Please read the Memo re Extended or Long Term Assignment Teachers carefully for details.
While you may have eligibility effective September 1st, we are not sure how or how soon the DDSB will be managing the data necessary to make this happen. We are certain that processing these changes to your status will result in a delay of several weeks from the initial eligibility date of your assignment and your invitation from OTIP to register for the plan. If it has been at least three weeks since you have met the eligibility criteria to access the plan and you have not received an invitation from OTIP to join it, please contact email@example.com
to confirm your eligibility and whether you have been entered into the system. While you are waiting for the various systems to process your eligibility, if you are certain that you fit the criteria, you can use the benefits that you need, keep the receipts, and submit them later for reimbursement.
