OTBU Benefits – Central Benefits Plan
Benefits News for Contract Assignment Teachers (Extended or Long Term Occasional)
OSSTF has some great news to announce regarding access to the OSSTF benefits plan!
OSSTF members who are within a Contract assignment (Extended or Long Term Occasional) of 90 days or longer became eligible for the OSSTF benefits plan as part of our Central deal. Eligible members have access to the plan effective September 1st 2020!
You will find below the following documents:
• Memo re Extended or Long Term Assignment Teachers
: provides details regarding eligibility for benefits
• Quick Reference Guide-April 2021
: provides details about the benefits available under the plan and some registration details
• Single vs Family Benefits Premiums 2020-2021 Contract Employees
: provides the rates for the benefit plan
Teachers who have an LTO contract will be eligible for the plan as of their first day in the assignment. Teachers who have an Extended Daily assignment will be eligible as of the 90th calendar day from their first day worked in the assignment but they will be able to submit eligible expense claims dated back to the beginning of their assignment. Please read the Memo re Extended or Long Term Assignment Teachers carefully for details.
While you may have eligibility effective September 1st, we are not sure how soon the DDSB will be managing the data necessary to make this happen. We are certain that processing these changes to your status will result in a delay of several weeks from the initial eligibility date of your assignment and your invitation from OTIP to register for the plan. If it has been at least three weeks since you have met the eligibility criteria to access the plan and you have not received an invitation from OTIP to join it, please contact email@example.com
to confirm your eligibility and whether you have been entered into the system. While you are waiting for the various systems to process your eligibility, if you are certain that you fit the criteria, you can use the benefits that you need, keep the receipts, and submit them later for reimbursement. If, after reading through the documentation, you are not sure if you do fit the criteria, please contact OTBU President Avril Burns at Avril.Burns@d13.osstf.ca
with your questions. OSSTF District 13 Benefits Officer Nicole Bléau is also available at Nicole.Bleau@d13.osstf.ca
