OTBU Benefits – Central Benefits Plan

Benefits for Contract Assignment Teachers (Extended or Long Term Occasional)

OSSTF members who are within a Contract assignment (Extended or Long Term Occasional) of 90 calendar days or longer are eligible for the OSSTF benefits plan as part of our Central.

Below you will find the following documents:

  • Memo re Extended or Long Term Assignment Teachers: provides details regarding eligibility for benefits
  • Quick Reference Guide-Oct-2022: provides highlights about the benefits available under the plan
  • Single vs Family Benefits Premiums 2022-2023 Contract Employees: provides the rates for the benefit plan
Teachers who have an LTO contract of 90 calendar days or longer will be eligible for the plan as of their first day in the assignment.  Teachers who have an Extended Daily assignment will be eligible as of the 90th calendar day from their first day worked in the assignment but they will be able to submit eligible expense claims dated back to the beginning of their assignment.  Please read the Memo re Extended or Long Term Assignment Teachers carefully for details.

If it has been at least three weeks since you have met the eligibility criteria to access the plan and you have not received an invitation from OTIP to join it, please contact hr.services@ddsb.ca to confirm your eligibility and whether you have been entered into the system.  While you are waiting for the various systems to process your eligibility, if you are certain that you fit the criteria, you can use the benefits that you need, keep the receipts, and submit them later for reimbursement.  If, after reading through the documentation, you are not sure if you do fit the criteria, please contact OTBU President Julia McCrea at Julia.McCrea@d13.osstf.ca with your questions.
